Nyck has been dealing with kidney disease since he was a small boy. He is now in end-stage renal failure. He has medical, travel, lodging and food expenses before and after surgery. Following his transplant, he will need to stay near the hospital for 4 to 6 weeks. He will then need to travel over 600 miles 1 to 4 times a month for the following year for medical follow-up appointments. He will be taking very expensive anti-rejection medication for the rest of his life.
Nyck has always been very active in many different sports. He especially loves swimming, hiking and fishing, skateboarding and soccer. Due to the deterioration of his health, he is no longer able to do the things that he loves. At only 24 years old, Nyck is eager to get back to work and excited to begin and care for a family.
Nyck is so admired and loved by his family:
(From his younger brother) “You have been many things throughout your life, a brother, a son, a grandson, a hard worker; but most of all you have been a fighter. Since the beginning you have had to overcome countless obstacles but, like a true fighter, you keep going and never give up. You inspire everyone around you. You will always be my biggest hero.”
(From his sister) “Nicholas, thank you for being you. Thank you for pushing through life with an amazing sense of humor and a smile that lights up this earth. Thank you for protecting me and helping me through the awkward years. I am so thankful to have you in my life as my older brother. I love you more than words can explain. You’re the best and we need your continued guidance through life.”
Donations will help Nyck get his transplant and maintain financially as he takes this very important next step. By donation through Help Hope Live you can help ease the financial stress ahead for Nyck and give him the chance at a long, productive life.
Family and friends of Nicholas Shultz are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Nicholas has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors.
