My name is Jay A. Blum and I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but moved to the sun-kissed shores of South Florida at the age of three. As an adult, I had the privilege to live and work in nineteen countries, five U.S. states, four aircraft carriers, two submarines, and three Native American Reservations.
Diagnosed with multiple cancers, which ultimately took my thyroid, both kidneys and 85% of my sight, I had to retire from my traveling circus above and now I am kept alive thanks to dialysis. I now live with my wife and son while writing from the comfort of my home in a quaint and small town in Georgia.
In addition to writing, I travel the globe proudly speaking to intimate groups and packed lecture halls about not giving up the fight. About living with cancer. About living without kidneys and the failures and successes of being on dialysis and how to advocate for your rights as a patient and a human being against the medical community.
I need your help to continue to live and fight for what’s right for other kidney patients. I need your spare kidney to survive and help others. I also need some financial help to pay for the kidney transplant and the immunosuppressant drugs I hope to receive once I am listed.
There is no cure for my kidney disease. I don’t have any kidneys left. A transplant isn’t a cure, but another treatment option. A treatment option that allows me a greater life expectancy and quality of life to go with it.
Your financial help will allow me the opportunity to see my Son graduate from high school, get married, and hopefully grow old. Without a transplant, my life expectancy is very short.
I have chosen to fundraise through Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility to the full extent allowed by law for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse my medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.
Thank you so much for your support!
My heartfelt thanks go out to Kim and Jeff Brown for their generous donation towards my kidney transplant.
May 3-6, 2019 - I, along with more than 100 other advocates from kidney organizations around the country will converge on Capitol Hill to “Inspire Change for Kidney Disease,” meet with lawmakers and put a human face on kidney disease during the 6th Annual Kidney Patient Summit, organized by the National Kidney Foundation. Participants are united by a mission to educate Congress about the importance of living organ donation, the importance of immunosuppressant medication coverage for transplant patients and support for CKD research and programs.
