DCM is when the hearts ability to pump blood is lessened because its main pumping chamber, the left ventricle, is enlarged and weakened. It can temporally be controlled with medication, and for the last two years medicine has kept Brady’s heart stable. In November of last year, Brady had a heart catheterization done and it showed that Brady had excess water on his heart, and he was in the hospital for a week. They also told us at the time that it was time to think about getting him listed for a heart transplant.
We had the heart transplant consultation in December of 2018 and shortly after that he was listed as a 2, which is the lowest priority as a med change made him stable again. Then in February of this year he had another heart cath done and they found that his pulmonary vessels are being compromised and that it was time to insert a LVAD. A LVAD is a left ventricular assist device that is used for patients in end stage heart failure. They surgically implant a mechanical pump which then helps the left ventricle (main pumping chamber of the heart) pump blood to the rest of the body.
Brady will be having this LVAD put in on March 20, 2019 in Ann Arbor a CS Mott Children’s hospital and he will be in the hospital for 4 to 6 weeks. Having this LVAD put in will put Brady on list 1A of the transplant list, which is the highest list they have.
Please Pray for our family as we will be right by his side for the entire time he is in the hospital.

Brady got out of the ICU today!!
On April 27th, 8 days after the LVAD placement and only 3 days after listening him as a 1A status on the transplant list we received the call that they had found a new heart for him. He is now 48 hour post transplant and doctors are very pleased with his progress. We hope today (April 30th) they will be able to take out some chest tubes and get him off some IV meds. Also they hope to get him out of ICU in a couple of days. Praise God for the chance at a new life.
Another great day for Brady. Doctors are very pleased with his progress so much so that he's being moved up on the transplant list as a 1A (top Priority). Also through out the day they hope to remove some of the IV meds and get rid of the IV in his neck.
Brady had is LVAD surgery on Friday April 19 and the surgery went well. He has been such a trooper. The only set back he had was getting the breathing tube out. Normally it's out in 24 to 48 hours and he just got his out this morning (4-22) He is doing great and can't wait to eat and drink.
Brady's LVAD surgery has been postponed until April 19th.
Brady and his dad are having some last minute fun at the Metallica show tonight in Grand Rapids. We leave for Ann Arbor on Sunday and surgery is one week from today.
