One week later NaChelle was born via emergency c-section weighing in at 1lb 6oz. Then the transplant journey began. Two years later Joyce was successfully transplanted.
Fast forward to 2016: Joyce became ill without explanation. Come to find out, she was dehydrated, had a severe but asymptomatic UTI, and was in full blown rejection. Doctors battled to save the kidney but ultimately lost. Joyce began dialysis in May of 2018 and has to start the process over again. Unfortunately, secondary insurance or a large fundraising campaign is required for her to begin to get on the transplant list. A law was passed in the state of Oklahoma which prohibits a person with ESRD and Medicare from obtaining secondary insurance.
Joyce is a single mother with a 10 year old little girl. She is very family oriented, loves to cook for others, is a very social person, and misses having the energy to play with her little girl. She maintains a positive outlook and is determined to raise the money needed to be transplanted and get healthy again. She is determined to return to being a working mom and raise her daughter. Kidney disease will NOT win! Now she needs your help to raise the money for transplant. Please help Joyce!
Family and friends of Joyce Ryans are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation. Joyce has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility to the full extent allowed by law for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.

Joyce received a kidney transplant on April 30, 2021 from a young male deceased donor in Texas. It was a great match with some surgical aftercare complications, but she made it. Medicare coverage only lasts 3 years post transplant. She planned out her goals for the next 3 years. She gave herself one year to heal, one year to go back to school to further her education, and one year to find an office job with insurance coverage. In August of 2022, Joyce began a Business and Medical Administration Program at her local Votech. She had a minor outpatient procedure during Thanksgiving break, that resulted in her contracting Covid and missing much of her December classes. Luckily she made it through and held her scholarship as well. She received many awards and placed in many State level competitions she competed in that Spring. Joyce completed her courses May 17 2023 with an A grade average. The following day, she began a new career in Human Resources assisting in payroll as well.
Life still comes with challenges, but she's tackling them all one day at a time. Joyce is now a full time employee and mom, with a daughter about to become a teenager. She is forever thankful to all of you who donated your time, prayers, thoughts, funds, encouragements, and kind words thorough such a trying time. Thank you to HelpHopeLive who continues to help to this day through the thoughtful donations of all of you. Let us all never forget that organ donation saves lives. Thank you to the family of that young man whose hardest sacrifice to make was the greatest of blessings to Joyce and her family. Without you, the story would have ended and her child wouldn't have Joyce to raise her now.
It's been a while since we updated. Joyce is officially on the transplant list. YAY! Because she is going to be harder to match this time, last week she was put on the national transplant list, giving her access to a much larger pool of possible donors. The pandemic has slowed down the testing process, but we are hopeful that a match is found soon.
Well everyone OU Transplant team has given us a list of to do’s to get on the list. I was allowed to begin MY blood testing process, but still not to the point of testing others yet.(they drew 17 vials of blood!! Yikes!!) These are my requirements as of right now: I must retake all of my childhood immunizations again, as I’m not immune to anything it turns out. My teeth were immensely weakened by my condition so I’m having to remove all my upper teeth and get an upper denture in place. Multiple scans and medical tests are required as well. We are halfway to our fundraising goal and we are so thankful to all of you! I love you all, even if I’ve never met you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and from my family.
