On February 5, 2019, I was on my way to work and was struck by a SUV crossing an intersection.

I was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where I was diagnosed with life threatening injuries. I suffered an incomplete T3-T6 spinal cord injury (paralysis from waist down). I also suffered a broken arm, broken leg, cracked ribs, and several other abrasions. As you can imagine, the cost of my care and recovery is astronomical. My medical bills are extremely high even with insurance. I am facing many out-of-pocket expenses such as home modifications to accommodate my wheelchair, ongoing rehabilitation therapy, and a part time home health aide. My long-term prognosis is still undetermined due to my severe nerve damage. Now my prognosis is now difficult as I have blood clots in my left leg.

I push myself daily to regain function, mobility, and to stay positive. While I have experienced some movement in my lower body and walking with a walker, my prognosis is still unclear. Despite the many physical challenges I face, I am determined to keep thriving to support and care for my family as well. My family need my positivity even more than ever and I also need their support.
