“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
What can be the purpose under heaven in having a body with two failing lungs and multiple sclerosis?
My name is Cynthia McCullough and that’s a question I’ve asked myself for several years, especially now that the time has come for a double lung transplant. I find myself moving into a new season of life in which I am depending heavily on family and friends for support with every facet of life. A few—including my husband, Malvin and my brother Brad—are right here with me. Their help with the physical needs of everyday living is tremendous; I can’t manage without them. But starting now, my most critical need is funding.
May I count on your financial support in this evolving season of my illnesses? I live in southeastern Indiana, but my best chance at a successful double lung transplant (given my other physical complications) is in Cleveland, Ohio. As a result, I will make numerous road trips for testing and exams. Because of my distance from the hospital, I will have an air ambulance charge when the call comes. Then I will be facing a seven-figure surgery and hospital stay, a 3-month temporary residency in Cleveland while I recover, and last but not least medications to keep both organ rejection and my multiple sclerosis under control for the rest of my life—and I’m not yet 55. It is all quite overwhelming for all of us!
That is why this is the time I have joined with Help Hope Live—a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to help hope live in the hearts of patients and their families who are facing the mountain of expense associated with transplantation and catastrophic illness. Help Hope Live has the expertise and technical resources to assist patients’ fundraising efforts, such as this campaign page you are viewing now, and also to manage the funds that are raised.
Every gift is equally important in covering the multitude of expenses; currently I need to reach $20,000 in the fund so certain expenses are covered at the point I am listed. Ultimately, I hope to have at least $200,000 raised to fund uninsured expenses for both the double lung transplant and my multiple sclerosis. You may give online using the GIVE button, by mail at the address shown on this page, and in person at various fundraisers which will be held over the coming weeks and months.
May I also count on your prayer support? My most fervent prayer in this time has become that God will use me and my story to bless people and glorify him; I hope to share frequently to keep everyone up-to-date on my condition. Additional prayers are appreciated for all the families of those who have made their last gift the gift of life.
*****
I (along with my family and friends) am raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund the uninsured medical expenses associated with my double lung transplant and multiple sclerosis. We’ve chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility to the full extent allowed by law for contributors.
As the treasurer or accountant for several nonprofits, I know how important that is for contributors, and our contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. Please know that your support, be it monetary or physical or spiritual, is a precious gift of infinite value to me and my loved ones!
Thank you so much!

Dear Malvin,
Today we celebrate 27 years of wedded bliss! Well, maybe 25 years or so of bliss and a few scattered times of less than bliss....just sayin'! ;-)
Song of Solomon 3:4--I found the one whom my soul loves. Only through the grace of God could I be so blessed to have you as my husband, standing beside me in this journey toward transplant. When we said in sickness and in health I don't think either of us thought it would be pretty much all sickness on my part, yet you have honored your vow and endured with love.
Today I thank you for all that you have been, and all that you are--and I pray that we have many more years together so we can celebrate all that you will be. I love you!
Dear friends, my family and I can't begin to express how much the thoughts, prayers, hugs, prayers, food, prayers, rides to doctors, prayers, stories of hope, and prayers have touched us over these first four months of this campaign! All of you have given so much in so many ways, it just blows us away! Reaching the first goal of $20,000 so soon just blows us away as well! THANK YOU from the depths of our hearts!
You will notice the goal has been moved up to $50,000. In the past four months I have learned that my post-transplant medications will be significantly more expensive than I first estimated thanks to a different insurance classification, and not being able to discontinue an expensive pre-transplant medication. Also, I have learned the most recent average cost of a double lung transplant is now $1.3 million, which means my share will be roughly $260,000. In light of these increasing amounts, I've increased our goal. I'm excited to see how quickly we can reach it!
Thank you again to every single one of you who has supported us in any way since this transplant journey began, but most especially thank you for your prayers! We feel them and we cherish them! Please keep them coming! And know we pray for all of you too! XX
This morning I want to take the time to say a HUGE thank you to all the people who have responded so very graciously (and generously) to this campaign! I never realized how many people I am connected to through my family and friends! I've heard the quote about there being just 6 degrees of connection between any two people on earth, but WOW! I think in my life it is like only 3 degrees! The best part of it all is how each of these people is supporting me with their prayers! I know I can keep giving it my all (even if my all is small) with the strength of prayers holding me up! We've only just started and the road ahead may be long, but with prayers and shares we'll get there, step by step! Love to all!
I am so grateful to have found this wonderful tribe of women known as HAPLOUS! Beautiful daughters of the King whose love and encouragement for each other knows no bounds. They bring me hope when I really need it, like in this great post:
haplous_official Are you taking advantage of the access God has given you? ✨ Have you talked to Him today? Have you given Him your worries? Have you told Him your secret hopes that seem silly to wish for? Have you asked Him to fight that battle you're facing? Have you fully realized how much HOPE you have because He is ON YOUR SIDE? ✨ Hope is yours for the taking. Every minute. Every day. Stand up and start taking advantage of it. ✨ “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is GOD’s will for you in CHRIST JESUS” —1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Xx #haplous #thebabystepsblog #dailyinspiration
Today as I help with the work of preparing for our Resurrection Celebration tomorrow, I have been led to this verse from 1 Peter:
1 Peter 1:3 (Contemporary English Version (CEV))
A Real Reason for Hope
3 Praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is so good, and by raising Jesus from death, he has given us
new life and a hope that lives on.
My prayer for all of you this weekend especially is that you may know this most precious hope of all!

This is someone I know closely that is very humble and has helped a homeless shelter and many homeless pets in a quiet way not wanting any glory for her countless hours and dollars that she has given. Now this transplant is life saving and she can not be on the list unless she has a certain amount of money down. If ever there was a worthy cause this is one . Please share this and encourage your friends to give. Thank you Cynthia you so much for doing the many things you have for people that will never know.

Love you, Cindy!
