Eleven years ago, the doctors identified on an MRI when I fell on black ice in my driveway, that I have many polycystic cysts on my liver. The giant hemangioma is the size of a small melon now. As these cysts are growing, my liver is becoming larger and pressing on my stomach and other organs, shrinking my stomach. I am nauseous every 2-3 hours and eat very small meals. I look about 5 months pregnant. My kidneys are also attached with huge cysts and close to renal failure.
I have always lived a positive and productive life despite the chronic health condition which has been progressing. The best choice to improve my lifestyle is a double transplant of both the liver and kidneys, a very rare disease.
While I have Medicare health insurance and Medicare for hospital services, many transplant expenses such as 21 anti-rejection pills per day, and travel for me and my family will not be covered in full. Also, I must recover in a hotel for 30-40 days after the transplant with family and friends who will be with me just 1 mile from the doctors and the hospital. Medications alone are anticipated to be upwards of $5,000 per month.
Donations to Help Hope Live can help lower the financial burden of a double transplant and go on to live a long and healthy life.
Family and friends of Carol Bogner are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Carol has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.
