In 2005, I was diagnosed with a disease I had never heard of before
Namely, it was Primary Biliary Cholangitis (formerly renamed from Primary Biliary Cirrhosis to Cholangitis). It is widely known by its acronym alone – PBC. PBC is a rare, autoimmune disease that has no known cure, and destroys the bile ducts which, over time, leads to cirrhosis of the liver where a transplant soon becomes the only option for survival. The diagnosis can trigger a host of other issues as it worsens. My liver is now cirrhotic and I am in stage four with Jaundice, Edema, Insomnia, Fatigue, Nausea, and itching sensations as well as extreme muscle spasms. Currently, I am being monitored on a weekly basis. As a Christian believer, I am carried by the fervent prayers of many – especially my mom, church family, and close forends. Making important lifestyle and eating changes are also vital but; the progression continues and, can progress rapidly due to the worsening condition.
