My mother, who is 62 and a disabled woman, took a turn for the worse on May 2, 2019. She was on a routine visit from Maryland to Colorado, as she had just recently relocated to Maryland to be with me, her only daughter and grandchild. She was immediately admitted to the cardiac ICU, where she was advised that she would require a heart transplant. My mother waited 21 years to receive the gift of life by being allotted the opportunity to receive a heart transplant on May 15, 2019. She will require assistance and medications daily to sustain her life.
My mother overcame challenges where others would have given up. In the last 21 years, she established herself as a pillar of the community. Very early on in her battle for her life, she took ownership of her circumstances. She values honesty and integrity as key factors to living a successful life. She is a pivotal member of her church and volunteers relentlessly with the Sickle Cell Community, while also ushering a group of Girl Scouts in their civic duties. Last year, she helped establish a scholarship fund for kids in the Colorado Springs community, who otherwise would have been burdened with the cost of higher education.
Now, she is asking for help with donations to assist her with temporary housing in the Colorado Springs area as well as at her primary residence in Maryland. My mother will require assistance with anti-rejection medications, which can cost upwards of $6,000 per month. She will also need assistance with transportation. Your donation will allow her to focus on her recovery, which will then allow her to get back to her civic duty and love for the community.
