Support Joey Spangler: A Veteran, Volunteer, and Fighter in Need
Joey Spangler has spent his life serving others—as a U.S. Army veteran, a dedicated community volunteer, a prostate cancer survivor, and a loving father and grandfather. Now, as he battles end-stage emphysema and early-stage lung cancer, he needs our help.
For years, Joey has lived on a fixed income due to his illness, depleting his savings just to cover basic needs. His long-awaited bilateral lung transplant was delayed by cancer, and he must now complete treatment and remain in remission for two years before he can be reevaluated. In the meantime, his medical related expenses continue to increase.
Joey’s service to his country includes over a decade in the Army, where he had the honor of standing guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. In his civilian life, he has given back to his community through volunteer work with Heartly House, advocating for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. He also serves as a Living Legacy Ambassador, educating others about the importance of organ and tissue donation.
Despite his struggles, Joey remains a beacon of kindness, always sharing a smile and uplifting those around him. But the journey ahead is challenging. A lung transplant requires extensive medical care, lifelong immunosuppressant medications, and financial stability to ensure proper follow-up treatment.
Joey’s family and friends are raising funds through the nonprofit (501(c)3 status) Help Hope Live, which ensures that all donations go directly toward his uninsured medical expenses. Your support can make a real difference in his fight for a second chance at life.
