My brother’s life long battle with liver disease is at a critical point. He is now in liver failure and needs a transplant to survive. We are asking family and friends to join us in fundraising for the non-profit Help Hope Live to assist with critical expenses Lamar will face immediately after surgery, including lodging, travel, medication and more near the transplant center where he is required to stay for six weeks following his surgery. He needs your help.
Lamar, known as “Bubba” by his friends and family, experienced liver failure at the age of four. His first transplant did not work and he underwent a second at age five. Now the donated liver is worn out and it has triggered kidney disease. Lamar receives dialysis three days a week for four hours.
Just a few years ago, Lamar’s life was right where he wanted it to be. He earned an associates degree in AutoCAD Engineering, and while he looked for job opportunities in that field, worked two part-time jobs to support himself. In his free time he wrote and recorded songs at a small music studio. He had a house, a car, independence and freedom.
In 2015, he suffered from a brain aneurysm that left him paralyzed on the left side of his body. Doctors did not know what caused it and they told Lamar that he would never regain mobility. Lamar kept trying, and over time, managed to sit up and finally walk. Today he walks with the help of a brace on his left leg. However, his right leg is also swollen due to lymphedema.
While Lamar has medical coverage, there will still be co-pays, medicines and hospital costs that will not be covered by insurance. Lamar anticipates these costs to be in the thousands of dollars.
Donations to Help Hope Live can help ease the financial burdens of a transplant and allow Lamar to focus on a healthy recovery and a long life ahead with family and friends.
“No matter how hard it seems, don’t give up”, Lamar says. “Anything can happen at any time. It’s up to you to roll with it or lay down. If you lay down, most likely you are not going to survive. The moment you give up faith is the moment you are going to lose everything.”
Family and friends of Benjamin ‘Lamar’Bradley are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Benjamin chose to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.
