Moses is a veteran of the Navy, having been deployed as part of Desert Shield. He also served in the National Guard as a field medic. Moses worked for many years as a Corrections Officer for the State of Pennsylvania, as well as donating time as a volunteer fire fighter. He has, unfortunately, been unable to work for the past three years.
Moses is currently awaiting a heart transplant. He is on the transplant list as his heart has weakened to the point that his only chance for survival is a donated heart.
Although Moses has insurance, there are many uninsured expenses associated with transplantation. Therefore, funding this procedure will be a monumental task. Moses has already been in and out of the hospital numerous times. He has been waiting two years for his transplant. Once transplanted, the expenses will continue in the form of medications, co- pays, costly post-transplant medications (to be taken for a lifetime), follow-up appointments and doctor visits to ensure the continued health of Moses and his precious “gift of life.”
To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Moses’ honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Heart Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.Moses and I feel very fortunate to have the loving and supportive family and friends who help in so many ways. We appreciate you good wishes and generosity.

Moses spent both Christmas and his birthday (12-27) in Allegheny General Hospital this year. He was having a GI bleed. This is a common side effect with an LVAD implantation.
The bleeding has stopped and his is home now.
