I would like for you all to meet my best-friend, my soul mate, a wonderful father of 3, and my husband James Ray Stokes. We met in February 2012, but his medical journey started way before that. While working 60-70 hours a week and then coming home to be with the family left little time for himself. During a yearly physical, it was brought to James’s attention he was diabetic. This started a downward spiral in his health.
Around Thanksgiving 2016, James started feeling bad. Then around New Years 2017 we went to the ER and left with no answers. Finally February 2017, James was diagnosed with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) cirrhosis. Since then, James has had 2 GI bleeds, numerous paracentesis, a couple of surgical procedures, and way too many hospitalizations. In July 2019, James was approved for a liver transplant and was put on the list.
We are lucky enough to have wonderful medical insurance but it doesn’t cover our lodging for the six weeks after his transplant. We will need to stay close to Vanderbilt because James will have all types of appointments for the first few weeks to check for medication adjustments, and to make sure his body does not reject the new liver. Also since I am his primary caregiver, we will need extra money to cover insurance premiums during that time. Funds will also be needed to help with bills and living expensive for that 4 – 6 week period to run our personal home in Kentucky and the lodging near Vanderbilt. Also to help with any co-pays on medications or any other medical expenses.
I want to be able to live a happy long life with my husband that is why we are asking for your help in our time of need right now. We choose to fund-raise with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility to the full extent allowed by law for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.
