Please help our sister pay for medical expenses for her upcoming kidney transplant. A close childhood friend has selflessly volunteered to donate her kidney. Proceeds will help pay for uncovered medical costs.
Kaia has been on dialysis for over a year. Nearly 40% of dialysis patients pass away within 5 years. There is a 10 year waiting list for a kidney transplant. It’s a miracle that our family friend has stepped forward and is a match!
When she was 8 months old, our parents adopted Kaia from South Korea and she has a rare blood type. All of our family members applied for a donation but her siblings and parents were not able to help.
About Kaia: I’m a 38-year-old mother with a 5-year-old son that lives in Kenosha, Wisconsin. I’ve worked in the medical profession for most of my career. I’m in end stage renal failure due to Lupus — a disease caused by genetics and environment. I’m on dialysis 7 days a week while still working full-time at the hospital. As described by my parents, “I’m a loving daughter, caring mother and a very wholesome, virtuous, & responsible person!”. — Kaia LeMay

Kaia was able to leave the hospital about a week after her surgery. She is improving each day and her follow-up appointments at Froedert are slowly decreasing. She’ll be on anti-rejection medications and a restricted diet for the rest of her life, but she’s so grateful not to be on dialysis everyday anymore. Her donor, Kristine, was able to return to work last week and reports she’s feeling good!
We’re so grateful for Kaia and Kristine’s successful surgeries! Kristine has been released from the hospital and her wonderful son will help her as she recovers. Kaia is still in ICU, but will probably be moved to a regular floor today.
Kaia’s doctor said Kristine’s kidney started to produce urine as soon as it was connected in surgery! She’s been able to eat regular food and meet her daily goals for walking. She has a long road to recovery still (6-8 weeks), but she’s making great progress.
Thank you again to all the amazing people that donated!

Kidney transplant surgery went very well. Both Kaia and Kristine are in their rooms. Kristine is doing fantastic. Kaia is in the ICU for a couple of days, which is standard practice. She will be hospitalized for 6-7 days. She’s well medicated and not feeling any pain.
Thank you for all the well wishes!
