Gray’s Story

Gray Hawks from Cana, VA has dedicated his life to helping others. He has served his country and his fellow man. Now he needs our help.
Gray served his country as a US Army Medic during the Viet Nam era. His love for helping those in need led him to join the Cana Rescue Squad in 1993 and they have awarded him Lifetime Member status. He worked as a paramedic for Catawba County EMS from 1996-2008 until he was forced to stop working due to severe liver disease.
His liver disease developed as a result of hepatitis he contracted from a patient he was treating. A liver transplant is now his only chance of survival.
A liver transplant is not only a major surgical procedure, but it is very expensive and insurance will not cover all the costs. The transplant will be done at Duke University Medical Center, and they have asked Gray to raise $13,300 to cover anticipated out-of-pocket expenses prior to his transplant.
