She is no stranger to having to fight for her life. Ana was born weighing 1lb 9oz at 24 weeks of gestation, and has since continued to fight esophageal varices, portal hypertension, chronic pancreatitis and now liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. Despite all of the challenges her health has posed to her, she has managed graduate from college with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine. She also has dreams of pursuing a master’s degree in nursing so she could help patients like herself. She managed to complete a 1-year Medical Assistant program while battling liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, and her transplant recovery. She is also currently working towards finishing the prerequisite courses required to apply to graduate school.
On February 9th, 2020, Ana was blessed with the gift of life, and received a liver transplant. For the rest of her life, she will require constant care, follow up appointments, and medical exams in order to make sure her body is not rejecting her new liver. That consists of ‘round-the-clock anti-rejection medications which will prevent her body from rejecting the organ; many of which are extremely expensive—totaling in the thousand dollars per month—and lower her immune system putting her at higher risk for many illnesses and diseases. Since the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home orders went into effect, Ana was let go from her job and exhausted her disability and unemployment benefits.
Ana has been blessed with an amazing support system and is so grateful for the endless prayers and beautiful messages she’s received throughout this whole journey. If you are interested and able to help support Ana, in a financial manner, you can do so by making a tax-deductible donation through the Help Hope Live non-profit organization.
Thank you for supporting Ana and others like herself with your prayers and donations.
