On August 31, 2019, our 14 year old son Boden was having fun catching football passes on a trampoline with his brother and cousins when he landed wrong and immediately lost all feeling from the neck down.

Boden fractured his c4-c5 vertebrae and injured his spinal cord. After being airlifted to Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania, he underwent immediate spinal surgery with potentially more surgeries in the future. His long term prognosis is unclear at this time. However, we do know that he is projected to be at the hospital and/or an inpatient rehabilitation center for at least several months, or as long as he continues to make progress, to regain movement in his upper and lower body.

Active, athletic, energetic, funny, smart, and compassionate are all words that describe Boden. He has a love for lacrosse, basketball, snowboarding, surfing, music, student council, friends, and his family. Since Boden rarely sits still and would prefer to be outside having fun, this next year will be incredibly difficult; however, he is determined to regain his mobility and lead a healthy, productive life. His positive attitude and polite demeanor despite his current circumstances are remarkable. While we know that he is scared and overwhelmed, his kindness, laughter, and beautiful smile are helping us to stay strong during this horrific and heartbreaking ordeal.
