My name is Oswald Burgos. I am 68 years old and live in Pawtucket, RI with my wife and teenage son. In the summer of 2015, I was diagnosed with a very rare illness called Interstitial Lung Disease.
Although I have now had to retire, for over 40 years I worked in various factories. My disease was caused by exposure to the chemicals that were used to clean the factory machinery. It caused little holes in my lungs, which now makes it extremely hard for me to breathe. For the past 4 years, after going back and forth to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for treatment and extensive testing, the doctors have informed me that my only hope for survival is to have a double lung transplant.
Truthfully, the thought of such invasive surgery is very scary, but not half as frightening as figuring out how I will pay for the transplant, post-transplant home care, and anti-rejection medication that I will need to be on for the rest of my life. Currently, my wife works full time, and my son is a full time college student. We have been told that the costs of the transplant and medications, after insurance, will be in the thousands.
It is for this reason that my family and I ask you to please consider helping us financially during this difficult, yet hopeful, time in our lives. We have selected to fundraise through the Help Hope Live national non-profit agency, because, unlike some organizations, they assure fiscal accountability of the funds raised. That means that contributors can be sure their donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses for me. Furthermore, tax-deductibility for contributors will be allowed to the fullest extent of the law.
To make a tax-deductible donation to my fundraising campaign, please go to Help Hope Live. Press the “Donate” button, then “Support a Client’s Campaign”. Click on my name, Oswald Burgos, and, finally, on the “Give” button.
I am grateful for any and all donations you are willing to give. Further, I ask you to please share this appeal letter with your family, friends, or business associates through e-mails, phone calls, or other social networking. Each donation will truly be like ‘a breath of fresh air’ to me. Thank you so very much for your support.
