He was also a dedicated employee at C.F. Martin Guitar in Nazareth, PA.
He was in a bicycle accident in May where he flipped over the handlebars of his old 18 speed bicycle. He fractured his C4 vertebrae and suffered a spinal cord injury. He was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA where he went for immediate surgery to stabilize his spine. Since they had to leave him intubated overnight to make sure no other surgery was required, he needed to have a trach and feeding tube placed. Once he was released from the ICU he went to a rehabilitation center. While there he ended up with ventilator pneumonia and sent back to the ICU. Once he was well enough he went to a long-term care facility to wean off the vent. He ended up getting a stage IV bed sore with osteomyelitis. He was then sent back to the ICU where he had to undergo more surgeries. He had a debridement complete with bone removal from his coccyx, he had to have a colostomy placed in order to have a flap surgery to close the wound. He had to stay there for 10 weeks and was on complete bed rest. He was then able to go back to a rehabilitation center. His time was very limited there, but he made progress. He was able to get off the ventilator, the trach was removed, and his upper arms are getting stronger. Brian continues to make progress even with all these setbacks.
Donations to Help Hope Live in honor of Brian will go towards medical bills, a wheelchair van to get him to appointments and hopefully back to work one day, assistive technology to get him back to work and for the house so that he can feel more independent, and modifications to our small home.
Family and friends of Brian Ashmore are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with Catastrophic Injury.
Brian has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. I don’t know Brian personally, however Josh Ashmore is my coworker. He informed us of the tragic accident, and a donation is the least I feel I can do to help. I pray Brian has a quick and complete recovery.
