My name is Dionne Shelton & I am the recipient of a heart transplant.
I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2015 & for the last four years I was hospitalized a number of times. The first time was in February 2015 when I suffered a stroke & was diagnosed with CHF. After recovering at home for a few months, I attempted to return to work as a private duty caregiver on a limited schedule but my condition got worse & needed more extensive treatment. In December 2017 I had a ventricular assist device (vad) put in to help pump blood to my organs while hopefully waiting for a heart transplant. On September 26, 2019 I got the call that my doctors had found a match for my heart & I was transplanted the very next day & remained in the hospital for the next thirty days post procedure.
