My name is Alexander Cole, my twin and I was born October 29th 1990 in Huntington, WV. I was a stillbirth weighing 4 pounds and 15 ounces due to a blood clot that I sustained in my right kidney. It was determined that I have a genetic blood disorder called Protein C Deficiency. Thanks to the relentless efforts of the doctors and nurses I am still here today. I recovered and lived a normal childhood.
When I was a teenager I was hospitalized for bilateral deep vein thrombosis. This hospitalized me for 60 days. Multiple different treatments were used. The DVT in my left leg cleared. The one in the right did not. I once again returned to a normal life with the lifelong use of anticoagulants and other medications. In 2018 we found that my left kidney had multiple infarcts resulting in the failure of my only functioning kidney. As many precautions were taken as possible to extend the life of the kidney. Discussions with my doctor it was evident that I would eventually need a kidney transplant. I immediately began working with Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. I am still working with them and am active of the transplant list. I am patiently waiting for a donor.
