April 2, 2020: The world might be in a state of uncertainty, fear, and even missing TP yet, life in Phoenix has been getting better every day. There have been great days and good days. Our most significant need right now is the N95 mask. Transplant patient takes a substantial amount of immunosuppressants to avoid rejection. An everyday cold for anyone else could become life-threatening for a transplant patient.

It has been six weeks since Dave's transplant, and he is doing fantastic. While the kidney he accepted was "high-risk," it is performing wonderfully. Kidneys can be considered "high-risk" for many reasons, including developing an underline disease from the donor.

Dave is one of those recipients who has developed another disease from his new kidney. This disease is curable with an 8-week treatment. The treatment includes eight weeks of a specialty drug, which costs a little under $28,000 for the eight week supply. Although extremely expensive, we are excited there is a clear answer.

On a positive note, the kidney itself is now up to 61% function. When Dave's kidneys failed in 2014, he was at >15 % function. All of his labs look great and show significant evidence the kidney is working. He stopped dialysis completely and healing very well.

We hope to be home soon. Although this means more isolation due to the Shelter in Place, it will be wonderful to see our family. One free from the dialysis machine and freedom to have a cold glass of water on a hot day!!!!

Thank you, everyone, who has helped so far. We appreciate all the prayers, encouraging words, looking out for our family back home...and please consider Dave when you want to ignore the Shelter in Place order.

Please remember all donations are tax-deductible and managed by Help Hope Live.

Thank you, everyone, for your support. Dave's new kidney has started working and he is up to 52% kidney function in the new kidney. Overall, he is doing great with just one bump in the road and a trip to the ER related to the incision. However, after a minor procedure, things are well.

We have a minimum of a few more weeks in Phoenix and only $3,000 from his goal.
