Eight years ago, I received my initial diagnosis of early stage non-alcoholic liver failure. It was just before my daughter’s wedding, and I was having surgery for something else so I could be ready to travel.
My surgeon noticed the condition of my liver and did a biopsy. I didn’t realize at the the time just how serious it was as I was dealing with several other autoimmune illnesses including, but not limited to, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Sjogren Syndrome, Diabetes, IBD, Hypothyroidism, etc. The pain and special treatments that I was undergoing took precedence at the time. Now, although I am still dealing with all the other stuff and the pain that goes along with them, I have no choice but to focus on my liver. I am now in end-stage liver failure, and must have a transplant … and soon.
Although I have never hesitated to seek help for others; I have always found it nearly impossible to ask for help myself. However, I need all the help I can get now. Only 80% of my medical expenses will be covered; and though I am immensely grateful for the 80%, 20% will still be astronomical! And then there are so many out-of-pocket expenses. There will be medications, dental care that must be taken care of pre-surgery, other tests, etc. Travel expenses alone are through the roof!
One of the problems I have with the liver failure is hepatic encephalopathy, which is when excessive amounts of ammonia build up on the brain … affecting memory and other cognitive functions; I often get mixed up due to this. It can be difficult to keep everything straight, but I try. There are also others to read behind me and help keep things straight for me.
Please help if you can. It means everything. We will keep you updated on how things are going.

Thank you for your support!
I have made it to Texas, my new home for the foreseable future. I've only been here for five days, but my experiences so far have been good. I've not met a rude person yet... everyone has been so friendly and helpful!
I miss home, but if I have to be near a good hospital, I'm glad it's this one. I'm lucky... my youngest daughter lives about 20 minutes, by train, from the hospital, Baylor-St. Luke's. She has lived here now for about six years, and I have missed her so much! So it will be nice catching up with her.
I want to thank you all, again, for your support. It means so much to me to know that so many care!
I love you all!
I want to thank everyone who has donated. Because of your generosity, I am only $335 away from my first goal. There are so many things that must be taken care of before my transplant can take place; and the stress I was experiencing over the financial aspect is starting to melt away.
Again, thank you all for your financial generosity... and, even more importantly, your prayers and love. I love you all, too.
