Back in September 2019 I had to have shoulder surgery for a torn rotor cuff, afterwards I ended up in the hospital for a week on a ventilator, I was told I had environmental pneumonia. When they got ready to let me go they told me I had serve emphysema and would need supplementary oxygen for the rest of my life. Then in Feb. 2020 I was told I needed a lung transplant, then covid hit. Everything halted but the disease kept progressing. I was referred to the Mayo clinic in Rochester Minnesota, a 3 1/2 hour drive from my home in Proctor Minnesota. On the first visit there I found out that I also have Pulmonary fibrosis, and may also suffer from short telolmeres syndrome. Now my wife and I will be spending a lot of time running to appointments to make sure I can make it on the list for transplant. If I’m approved then we will have to live down there for 3 to 4 months while I recover. My wife has to come and live with me as I will a caregiver 24hrs a day 7 days a week so she won’t be able to work.

Thank you for your support!
Hi. So Dan is close to one month out from transplant. The transplant went better than expected and things on that are going great. He got released from the hospital and ended back in the next day. The health issues he has been having are not related to the transplant. Lots of tests have been run and he will be here for the next couple of weeks to regain his strength. Thank you again for your support and your prayers.
Hi. On April 4, 2021 I was lucky enough to get a new set of lungs. The surgery went well and I am healing great. The doctors and I are amazed at how well things are going. I am no longer on oxygen so that makes things so much better. My wife, Mary, is now out of work to help with my care. We will be living in Rochester for 3 months.
I have been listed on the transplant list as of 2-15-21
At 3 pm now begins the wait for the “call”
