9/11 Search and Rescue volunteer now on double lung transplant recipient list and in need of your help.

William Cantres will be maintaining a mortgage in Miami while relocating in Gainesville for 3 months during the post operative phase. He is in need of assistance with lodging and travel expenses during that time, as well as out of pocket medical expenses. In addition, he will need to hire a caretaker for assistance for times where the family will not be available or in need of respite.

William Cantres worked as a Union electrician for many years in New York. He has been involved both politically and locally in the community, participating and helping organized community events, as well as providing his skilled trade services at no cost to those in need and struggling financially themselves. When 9/11 occurred, he felt the strong urge to help any way he could. He volunteered through his Union at Ground Zero for 6 months, both helping to provide lighting for the site and assisting with search and rescue and recovery efforts. He is an honorable man with a very big heart, who because of this big heart now suffers the effects in both lungs from the elements at Ground Zero.
