At just 21 years old, Anna has had several lifetimes of medical issues including needing a new heart. In late October, Anna received a heart transplant at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver. The surgery and initial recovery has been incredibly painful and challenging for Anna and will continue to be a long rugged road of tests and expenses that insurance will not cover. It is medically necessary for Anna and her father, Steve, to remain in Denver for as long as 6 months initially, with regular travel from Durango to Denver for a whole year afterwards. Steve has stopped working to be with Anna full time. With no employment income, they are now facing relocation costs, extraordinary monthly housing and living expenses in Denver, travel expenses and copays on necessary medications and other unforeseen expenses. All this is well over $5,000 per month. We are asking family and friends to join us in fundraising for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to help.
Anna’s first heart was surprisingly strong, against all odds. It saw her through many surgeries over the years, until she was no longer a stranger to Children’s Hospital and the highly regarded medical staff for whom we are so grateful. In a literal life relay, Anna has undergone transplant surgery for a healthy heart with a new mission, to help Anna live a full life that once seemed tenuous. She has goals to finish her college degree, launch a career in Child Psychology, travel the world, enjoy a lifetime with close friends and family and thrive in life and love. All these things are now possible, but only after her full and successful healing.
Even with Anna’s tenacity and strong will, the recovery process will take every ounce of time, energy and money they have. To further complicate an already insurmountable undertaking, COVID, is making it hard to know how to help and it has been impossible for family or friends to be there in person to help with everyday needs like, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning etc. However, you can help with a donation through Help Hope Live right now. Whatever you choose to give will help to lessen the stress on Anna and Steve so that their focus may remain on a full healing recovery for Anna and her new lease on life.
Thank you in advance for your prayers, concern, and generosity. With a new heart and your support, Anna can now look forward to a future and follow her life’s path with new strength and confidence.

Anna has had one episode of rejection which we’ve gotten that under control and are now starting the long slow taper off of one of the anti-rejection drugs.
Nausea is still a problem, but it’s slowly getting better.
They will draw labs on Monday morning to monitor all the various blood levels.
Another catheterization procedure, biopsy and infusion session on January 6, and with the right results she can come home on the 8th to Durango!
After that there will be monthly trips back up to Denver for more catheterization procedure’s, biopsy and infusion for the next year.
She’s still very weak and shaky, but on the road to recovery.
