Many of you know my mother Garland Burt Hundley. She is a “young” 68 year old who has raised three children, Sherri Osterhout, Brenda Reinstadler and Jerry Howard. Her step-daughters include Leslie Shell, Sue Trombly and Maureen Rose. She is also the grandmother and great grandmother of many lucky children. While raising her family in Michigan, Garland worked in administration at Midland Hospital and private medical practices. She was active in a bowling league and card clubs. She was also affiliated with Holy Scripture Lutheran Church. In 1989 Garland moved to Tucson, AZ and became a member of Santa Cruz Lutheran Church, was employed by Arizona Oncology and became a member of American Veterans Post #770. After becoming a widow to Robert L. (Bud) Hundley in October, 2008, Garland’s health began to decline rapidly and she moved to Texas to be closer to family. Brenda has not been able to return to work because she is the full time caregiver for Garland.
Garland has been diagnosed with End Stage Liver Disease. She has endured many months of testing and hospitalization. Garland’s doctors at Methodist Hospital in Houston have placed her on the waiting list for a life-saving liver transplant. This is her only option for survival. In addition to the liver disease, it has taken a toll on her kidneys and Garland may need a kidney transplant as well. The expense of one transplant, let alone two are astronomical and insurance does not cover all expenses. Some of these expenses are co-pays, travel back and forth to the transplant center and Garland will be on a life-time of anti-rejection medications. This is a challenge we can not meet alone. Your help is desperately needed.
A fundraising campaign has been established with the HelpHOPELive (HelpHOPELive) in honor of Garland. HelpHOPELive is a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization that has been assisting the transplant community for over twenty-seven years. All contributions are administered by HelpHOPELive exclusively for uninsured transplant-related expenses. Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Won’t you please consider making an end of year contribution to Garland’s campaign today? It’s never easy to ask for help and now is certainly no exception. Garland has touched the lives of many and we deeply appreciate the support she has received. At times like this, the assistance of family, friends, and the community is crucial to help ensure a positive outcome. Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated.
On behalf of our entire family, we thank you for your kindness, prayers and generosity.
