On Sunday August 9, 2020 my beautiful niece Whitney and a friend decided to ride his dirt bikes on his property down in Delta Utah. Whitney did everything right that day by wearing all the appropriate gear to protect herself, but unfortunately tragedy still struck and Whitney was hurt riding the dirt bike she was on with severe injuries. She was transported by ambulance to the closest hospital so they could stabilize her and while there they found out that Whitney had sustained a broken back and a fracture to her nose and eye socket and due to her back being broken and unstable they had to life flight her to the UVU hospital in Provo where she was put in the ICU. When they got her to the UVU they determined that she had a burst fracture of the T-12 in her back and she was paralyzed from the waist down and she was going to need immediate surgery. Whitney had to endure surgery during the worst part of Covid without her parents there by her side and being in the hospital alone. She had to have her T10-L2 fused and had to deal with being told she was paralyzed alone without having her parents there with her to deal with such tragic news. Whitney went through a lot in the hospital physically and mentally due to the accident but also because of the Covid restrictions and not being able to have family there with her. Whitney had to be moved to a rehabilitation center after her surgery and her back was stable enough with a back brace so she could start the rehab part of her recovery so she could build her upper body and build core strength. It was hard work and not only hard but physically and mentally. Whitney spent a month in the rehabilitation Center before going home.
Shortly after going home Whitney had to yet endure another surgery to fix her broken nose and eye socket that had been damaged in the accident which was another hardship. Whitney was trying to keep positive and deal with what was happening to her and was trying to move forward as good as she could but another blow was about to be dealt to her. She has a sweet little boy that she loves and adores and is her whole life and he is what kept her going and has kept her mentally going and moving forward and he loves her so much to and during this horrible accident his dad had him to help her through this hard time while she was getting better but unbeknownst to her when she got home from rehab and settled in and got used to her new way of living she wanted to get back to their regular normal guidelines for their custody of him and he refused and took him from her and didn’t allow her to see him and petitioned for full custody and now she is in a court battle to get him back. This has devastated her and financially hurt her as well. She hasn’t been able to work since the accident has happened. She has had one thing after another happen that has been out of her control but yet she has kept positive and done what she needs to do to try and get better. But once again Whitney was hit with a devastating set back, she developed a pressure sore that she fought for months putting her in bed rest and while having this pressure sore she became septic and ended up in the hospital due to being full of infection.
She was connected to a wound vac to clear out the infection to try and heal the wound for months to try to get the infection out so she could have surgery to fix this pressure sore. Once they got the infection out which took months Whitney was able to have surgery to fix this pressure sore but she ended up in a rehabilitation center flat on her back where she could not move at all for 6 weeks after. Whitney went through a lot during this time and again she fought the battle and I don’t know how she did it and started her regiment for her rehabilitation to get better but again she was knocked down with another pressure sore but not as bad as the first one but still had to go through the same process that she did the first one with a wound vac and the surgery and 6 more weeks in the rehab center. Whitney has gone through so much in such a short time that most people couldn’t even imagine from the time she had her accident on August 9, 2020 to middle of November of 2021.
We as family want to do this fundraiser for Whitney to help raise money for a chair lift so that Whitney can have access to her whole house. Her house has stairs in it and her bedroom is upstairs so she has had a make shift bedroom down in the family room and she would love to be back upstairs where her and her son Rydyr could be in their own rooms again and she could have access to a bigger bathroom. Plus this would give her more normalcy and more room to get around in the whole house. Her family has been through a lot her father just went through cancer treatments also and so helping them with this would help the family a lot. Whitney has gone through so much devastation this last year and a half personally and now has to deal with a custody battle she doesn’t deserve. Whitney is the kindest, sweetest woman you will ever meet. She would help anyone in need and if someone was in the same spot she would help them. We love her tons!!!!

progress is slow but great,
we are in the process of trying to put a lift in my home so I am able to go upstairs to shower and get to my room. I also have outstanding medical bills. anything helps and would be much appreciated. I'm just trying to get back to how things are and provide and give my son the things he needs.
Still lots of outstanding medical bills... anything helps.
