Yesterday was my birthday had a great time. This morning......I GOT THE CALL From Mayo!!!!! I'm NOW #1 on the Transplant List at Mayo. They told me to pack a bag and keep my phone on me at all times! IT CAN NOW HAPPEN AT ANY MOMENT!
I NEED YOUR PRAYERS PLEASE! This will be a VERY Difficult surgery. The doctors told us from the very start my chances are 50/50 BUT, I KNOW A MAN! He said "I know the plans I have for you (STEVEN) and I TRUST His plan.
Journey Update.
All tests are done. I'm number 7 (Lucky 7) on the Mayo transplant list. Meanwhile I now have to use on a ventilator when sleeping. to help keep lungs clear. (Sounds worse than it really is).
Still doing my daily walking of 2 miles on treadmill. My weight is going down....slowly. New target 174 lbs!
Have not been 174 lbs since Junior High :)
Really it's the BMI of 28 that I need. The lower the BMI the greater the chances of survival/longevity after transplant. My goal is to break the record of longest living Lung Transplant recipient (27 yrs+)
Again I want to say Thank You! First to God for All He has done, is doing and will do on my behalf. I also want to give a heartfelt Thank You to each and everyone of you who has donated to my transplant fund. Thank you for your prayers and your kind words. That's it for now :)
Praise God, test on my heart went well and ready for next step. I meet with Dr's in two weeks BUT FIRST! I'm spending time with my two grandsons (Steve III and Logan James) can't wait to see them.
Well tomorrow (June 18)starts the Transplant journey. They are conducting a heart- catheterization to insure my heart will withstand the 6-8 hour transplant. I again ask for your prayers and support. Thank you all
It's been a long journey! I've had my ups and my downs. I was first listed for lung transplant in 2006. I went into remission and was able to hold off until now. You see my transplant comes with some challenges, challenges that I was not ready to take.
This is my story: I've had numerous pneumothoraxes (collapse lungs) and to prevent them from collapsing again the doctors performed what is called a talc pleurodesis procedure that causes the lungs to stick to the rib cage. Well, my first one was over 15 years ago and the second one was over 8 year ago. This blessing is also my curse. Since so much time has gone by they will have to go in a cut out my lungs all the while trying to control the bleeding from all the blood vessels that have adhered to my ribs.
The doctors have been upfront and honest saying "I have a fifty-fifty chance. Thus was my dilemma.
Well, here we are 2014 and now is the time. So we press forward.
God is so good. He has blessed me in so many ways. I now have two grandchildren Steve III and Logan. I've had the opportunity to do the work of the Lord preaching and teaching and ready to do some more! My beautiful wife has been by my side every step of the way. And my children Steve Jr, Jalise and Charles all are now grown and doing well. Blesssings
