Author CS Lewis said, “Something deep in the human heart breaks at the thought of a life of mediocrity.” For Chris Riedy, nothing could be more true.
An athletic trainer, Chris has been dealing with heart issues for more than 20 years. A diabetic, he exercises and eats right, but since 1999, Chris has endured two bypasses, pacemakers, biventricular devices and repeated bouts of congestive heart failure. Despite these measures, Chris reached end stage heart failure in 2021 and needed a heart transplant.
That gift came on July 20, 2021 when Chris received a new heart. It’s a gift that will ultimately restore the life he and his wife, Jen, have largely put on hold.
“Life will be totally different,” says Jen. “We’ll be able to do things we haven’t been able to. Chris hasn’t been able to work, workout, or take a family vacation. The last few months have been especially stressful with travelling to be with Chris at the hospital 75 miles away.”
With the surgery behind him, the next year will have its own set of challenges. Chris will focus on regaining his strength with intense cardiac therapy and routine doctor’s visits to ensure the heart isn’t being rejected. He’ll take approximately 80 pills a day that support his heart but will leave him immunosuppressed for some time.
The financial burden the Riedy’s face is enormous, but one they accepted without question to save Chris’ life. Your tax-deductible donation will help defray their medical and cost of living expenses. Most importantly, it will ensure that Chris lives much more than a life of mediocrity.
Family and friends of Christopher Riedy are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Christopher has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.

Thank you for your support!
Chris has made great strides in the last 10 days, but these do not come without setbacks. It was a little rough this weekend and he ended up back in the ER. Thankfully his new heart was able to correct it’s own rhythm and we were able to go home early Sunday morning. This did not discourage him and he worked hard all week with PT and OT. He is a fighter and understands that there will be some obstacles in the road ahead. We got to Penn on 8/17 for his next biopsy to make sure that there are no signs of rejection. So far the last two have shown zero signs of rejection thanks to my husband strictly taking all 64 pills everyday! The transplant meds, travel to Penn with overnights for biopsy’s and medical bills have been coming in for payment. If you can help us ease the financial burden of this wonderful gift of life, please donate to his campaign. Help hope live is a nonprofit organization and your donation is tax deductible. It takes a village to help our family through this. One thing that we would like to do is let our friends and kids friends that donated know that we wholeheartedly thank you. We also thank everyone that reaches out to Chris to send well wishes. Those are just as heartwarming as a donation. He enjoys seeing the encouraging words, it makes his day and keeps him motivated!
