Kimberly has chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive – The Leader in Fundraising Assistance and Support for Transplant and Catastrophic Injury in part because HelpHOPELive provides both tax-deductibility and fiscal accountability to contributors. Contributors can be sure that funds contributed will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. For more information, please contact HelpHOPELive at 800-642-8399.
Thanks for your support!
Family and Friends, we are working on a new fundraiser for Kimberly. There has been a turn of events in the family. Her husband's employer is closing their doors and their income will be drastically impacted.
Kimberly uses the funds raised through HelpHOPELive to go to doctor visits at Cedar-Sinai which is about 2 hours from her home. Sometimes her appointments are over a two day period and require an overnight stay nearby to avoid extra strain put on her body from traveling too close together.
Fundraising information will be available soon and cross-posted on Facebook. If you are interested in helping with promoting the fundraiser, please contact her mom, Brenda Van Meter at [email protected].
Kimberly has been under a doctor's care to help with migraines caused by some of the anti-rejection medication. Since moving to California, she and her family have been living with her parents to help ease the financial strain. Kimberly has to go to Cedar-Sinai for a number of appointments about every three months now. She's doing well and working with the doctors to ensure her health stays under control. Kimberly just celebrated her 30th birthday February 18th. Her family is very grateful for the donor family who made it possible for Kimberly to remain a part of their lives. Truly, they feel blessed.
Kimberly and her family moved to California a couple of years ago to live with Kim's parents for extra support.
Since moving to California, Kimberly and her family have endured a number of challenges with her health. Transplants are wonderful life saving operations that come with a great deal of challenges. One of those challenges is the onset of diabetes due to some of the medication designed to keep the patient out of rejection. In addition, there is nerve damage that causes pain and enhances pain to areas affected by the strokes Kimberly endured prior to transplant.
Kimberly's husband Will is currently taking classes in hopes to find a better job to provide additional support to their family. In the meantime, they continue to work together with their parents to meet the day-to-day needs. Finances have become more challenging as Kimberly's father is now completely disabled and waiting for a court date with Social Security so his case can be heard.
The trips to Cedars have become more frequent as they work to help Kimberly manage the pain and watch over her heart. Other tests are necessary as well to ensure the medication keeping her alive is not doing damage to other organs. Contributions are greatly appreciated and are often used to cover gas, food and sometimes lodging for Kimberly and her husband when they go to Cedar Sinai for appointments.
On the upside, Kimberly still has a great attitude. Her son Jon is nearly 8 years old now and brings great joy to the family. Kimberly enjoys singing and participating in church events and does so as often as her health will permit. We hold on to our faith that God will continue to keep her and allow her to get better with His help and the help of her physicians.
Kimberly has been experiencing some complications due to medications. Recently the family's car became inoperable. They will need to rent vehicles periodically to go to appointments. She was admitted to the hospital, but is getting to go home today. Her outlook is better, but doctors will be monitoring her closely.
Kimberly was recently admitted to Cedar Sinai Medical Center and is in heart failure. Doctors are working to find the cause and treat her. She and her family moved to California last year to allow additional support from family. Their car is in bad shape and no longer repairable. They are in desperate need of a new vehicle. Anything you can do to help with their traveling expenses would be helpful. Cedar Sinai is approximately one hour from their home where Kim and her husband reside with their six year old son.
Benefit Concert Follow-up
Fundraiser held September 16, 2011
Thank you to everyone who came out to the Benefit Concert in Norco, CA last night. We raised $384 and gave away over 17 items that were donated for our opportunity drawing. People got to take home all sorts of baskets and gift cards. Everyone had a great time and the music was wonderful. A special thanks to Turning Point Church and the Tomes Brothers for their participation in the event.
Stay posted for future events. We are working on something great and this one will likely involve FOOD! Who doesn't like to eat?
Take care and thank you again for your generous giving.
Fantastic News! We got a heart!
