Hello Family and friends many of you may or may not know that I am in need a Kidney Transplant. In 2012 I was diagnosed with SLE Lupus which is an autoimmune disease. Lupus is an inflammatory disease caused when the immune system attacks its own tissues. Being diagnosed with lupus has been traumatic and life changing for me, I have experienced years of multiple medications, lupus flares, unbearable swelling of the joints, pain, frequent hospitalizations, battle with high blood pressure, severe Anemia, Butterfly Rashes, Alopecia, changes in my weight, and Anxiety. Just to name a few.
In 2020 unfortunately I became sick, with what seemed like more than a typical lupus flare, the symptoms were worse than a flare. It was hard for me to eat without feeling nauseous and vomiting, I felt weak and fatigue in my body, my labs was not looking so good, and it resulted in hospitalization. I was diagnosed with (CKD) chronic kidney disease leading to severe kidney failure. My kidneys have failed, due to the kidney disease doctors recommended that I immediately start dialysis because my life depended on it and in order to keep me alive and they ensured that dialysis will help me feel better.
I had surgery so that I can get a catheter placement which was located in my chest for dialysis . I started dialysis as an outpatient at a clinic three days a week four hours a day. I had to adapt to new to a new lifestyle. Despite the fact that it was something different for me to get accustomed to I understand the reason and how important it is for my health. I changed a lot of things in order to make my health top priority. I had to limit my hobbies, discontinue work avoid strenuous tasks such as heavy lifting, ringing out a wet mob, walking my dogs, a low sodium diet, new medications, and dialysis. When I first started dialysis, I was nervous and sad. Because my health took a sudden turn, and I did not know what else to expect. I have a great support system from my family who helps keep me strong and hopeful about my situation. By the grace of God, I have push through and overcame many of my obstacles thus far. I am looking forward to one day receiving a kidney transplant. I would like to be a motivation for others young and old that are faced with medical conditions and have trouble adapting to change you are not alone.
I am currently still on dialysis three days a week, four hours a day. Physically since I have begun dialysis, I have lost a tremendous amount of weight and majority of the time become very fatigue. I am unemployed, I stopped working because my health was worsening and taking a toll on my body. There were days that I couldn’t even finish my work shifts or had to call out. I eventually decided to take a medical leave of absence. My doctors and employer also suggested the same thing until I am deemed able to work again. I don’t always feel %100 myself, because besides dialysis I am also undergoing multiple other treatments for other diagnoses.
I am currently awaiting a kidney transplant and I receive dialysis three days a week, four hours each day. I currently have a fisula access in my arm for dialysis treatment . There is no cure for kidney disease, which is reason why I am seeking a kidney transplant. I am currently listed at NYU Langone Hospital and also in the process of being listed at multiple other hospitals within the region of New York and other states. The reason for multiple listing is so that there will be more possibilities at hand. More than thousands of people are on the waiting list in need of a kidney transplant. Which makes it more challenging, it can take years depending on a person, medical status, blood type and match. Getting a kidney transplant will make me healthier, happier and more grateful than I have ever been in life. I will be able to live a new, normal and sustainable life. I am seeking a living donor that is a O universal match because my blood type is O universal. A living donor transplant is a better long-term option, it’s more likely to last longer and is more effective than a deceased kidney.
I have chosen to fundraise in part with the Help, Hope, Live organization because they will ensure that raised funds will be put towards all medical expenses that will not be covered by medical insurance after kidney transplantation surgery. I would like to extend my gratitude in advance to everyone that is willing to donate.
Thank you all for your support!
Sincerely, Nahjae F.
