UPDATE: Todd received his heart transplant on 10/4 and is doing remarkably well! He is staying right on the Mayo Phoenix campus until the end of January at the request of the hospital so he has all the care he needs! He stays busy with appointments, resting and getting back in walking shape after so many years of atrophy! He continues to benefit from the support you have provided him here, so let’s keep working toward that goal!

If Todd Only Had a Heart. Even though this is not OZ, the Mayo Clinic can be the wizard to help Todd with a heart.

Todd J. Folmer has struggled with heart-related health issues for the last decade and he is now facing end-stage heart failure. According to the Mayo Clinic—widely regarded as the number one hospital in the US—Todd needs a heart transplant.

To know Todd is to love him, even when he makes you want to pull your hair out. He makes an impression on all. Who else has a full binder of office referrals from a high school teacher who still asks about him regularly even 35 years later?! He’s an honest, caring, and hilarious person who is a devoted friend. A former archeologist and horticulturalist, Todd has played an active role in his local community radio station. He went under the name DJ BJ until stepping down due to health issues.

Before heart trouble, he was an active guy whose love of life and adventure were contagious. Now he struggles to complete the most basic of daily routines. A new heart will provide Todd with a second chance at life and help him avoid the tragic fate suffered by his mother, who died in 2004 with a similar diagnosis. He will need a lot of perseverance (and we know stubbornness is a strength of his) and a lot of support emotionally and financially (that’s where you come in!).

Todd cannot do this alone! Your donations will help cover what insurance does not, including travel and accommodations for trips to the Mayo Clinic (7 hours away), co-pays and deductibles, home health care, medical equipment/supplies, and post-transplant medications—some which will be required for life.
