As of July 26, 2021, I am officially on the waitlist for a double lung transplant at Penn. Transplant is the latest part of my health journey since being diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension and interstitial lung disease in 2017.
Help Hope Live helps transplant patients tackle the many medical expenses not covered by insurance. Following my transplant, I expect to be an inpatient at Penn for one month. I also plan to reside in temporary housing near Penn for up to 3 months after I am discharged from the hospital – this will allow me to visit Penn a minimum of 3 days per week for rehab and routine testing. Help Hope Live can help me fundraise to cover the costs associated with temporarily relocating close to Penn.
My family and friends are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live in honor of me, Kirsten Braley, to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
I chose to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the GIVE button. Thank you for your support!
As of November 11th, I am temporarily suspended on the transplant list. Until we can get my blood counts (red blood cells, white blood cells, iron, and platelets) back up it would not be safe to transplant me for fear of infection risk.
