Family and friends of Roddneicka Joseph are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with Catastrophic Illness.
My name is Roddneicka Joseph, and I’m a 24-year-old medical assistant student from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I want to personally share my story with you — a journey that’s been filled with challenges, faith, and determination.
I was born prematurely at 1 pound, 8 ounces, and from the very beginning, I’ve been a fighter. As a child, I underwent multiple surgeries, including a procedure on my legs when I was 7 to help correct my walking after years of toe-walking. Despite a limp and being bullied through much of my school years, I never gave up on my love for learning and my dream of working in healthcare.
In 2016, while in middle school, I suffered a serious accident during dance class that changed my life. My right knee gave out, and within weeks, I lost the ability to walk independently. After several tests, an MRI, and a spinal tap, I was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy, Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuritis, and other conditions that affected my spinal cord.
Complications from that period led to nine surgeries over the years — including a major abdominal surgery for an intestinal issue that resulted in an ostomy and a life-threatening infection. I experienced respiratory failure, pneumonia, and even a medically induced coma for two weeks. By the grace of God, I survived — and I like to say I “beat death twice.”
Since then, I’ve learned to adapt and rebuild my life. I use a power wheelchair full-time, but I’ve regained my independence through therapy, faith, and perseverance. Today, I’m proud to be studying to become a medical assistant — determined to care for others just as so many caregivers once cared for me.
Having a wheelchair-accessible vehicle would change everything for me. Public transportation in my area isn’t reliable or safe for someone with my level of mobility challenges. With a vehicle that can safely carry my 400-pound power chair, I could attend medical appointments, go to school, and be active in my community without fear or limitation.
Help Hope Live has given me a platform to share my story and keep moving forward, and I’d love to collaborate with your team to help amplify my journey — through your social media, newsletter, or any feature opportunities. I want others facing challenges to know that there’s always hope, and that with the right support, independence is possible.
Thank you so much for all the work you do to help people like me live full, meaningful lives. I truly appreciate every opportunity to share my story and inspire others through Help Hope Live’s mission.
Please consider making a donation and please share my page on your social media platforms.
With gratitude and faith,
Roddneicka Joseph
