Many of you may be fortunate enough to personally know Nick Hansberger, a lifelong resident of Norwalk, Ohio. Or perhaps you may recognize him from his jobs either at the Summit Motorsports Park or the receptionist at Christie Lane (school for the developmentally disabled). What you may not know is that Nick was born with spina bifida, which causes him to constantly adapt and overcome increasing struggles on a daily basis.
Nick’s battle with spina bifida has taken away not only his capability to walk, but consequently the ability to use his car, which he had adapted with hand controls. His only mode of getting around is his motorized wheelchair, which he has shockingly used as means of traveling to and from his job; a mile and a half each way.
Nick struggles with immense difficulties (inclement weather, unfit roads, traveling at dark, great discomfort, etc.) to make his way to jobs that ultimately serve others. Yet anyone that knows Nick’s tenacity and selfless nature is not surprised by this, as he has never let his disability get in the way of doing good.
Stubborn by nature, Nick will never ask for help although he will always be the first to give it. Now he deserves the gift of independence and safety.
Through a coordinating campaign with the Help Hope Live Foundation, we are looking to raise the funds necessary for Nick to receive a wheelchair-accessible van modified for his chair. The freedom and health benefits this will afford Nick is something that cannot be accomplished without generosity from his community.
Any and all donations are overwhelmingly appreciated and if we are so blessed to reach the goal, any additional funds will go directly toward home improvements that will better accommodate his disability.
If you find yourself in a place where you cannot give, please spread the word and share Nick’s story so that others may be able to change his life for the better. Together, we can make this happen for Nick. Thanks to each and every one of you that has taken the time to care.
There may be no cure for spina bifida, but your contribution will undoubtedly change Nick’s life 100%. He has a heart to serve others and now Nick deserves our support.
***Family and friends of Nick Hansberger are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with Catastrophic Illness.
Nick has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.
