On November 4, 1994, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). My health remained stable until January 1999, when I experienced a major MS episode. I was no longer able to work. I was 44 years old and forced to go on disability because of this chronic, degenerative disease. Every few years my ambulation became more difficult. First using a cane, then a scooter. I had to give up walking, then driving. I fell in August 2010, fracturing my right leg and dislocating that ankle. I have been essentially bedbound ever since. From 2010 until now, I’ve had many sessions of physical therapy and occupational therapy, with little success in regaining mobility.
For the past 11 years, I remain in my living room in a lift chair/recliner and have become dependent on others for my daily needs. I know that if I become mobile again, I would be able to care for more of my own daily needs.
I recently learned of a mobility device that will provide the opportunity for mobility as well as a better quality of life. The device is called a “TEK RMD” designed by Matia Robotics.
“The all new Tek Robotic Mobilization Device (TEK RMD) is not a wheelchair alternative, but a brand-new mobility platform… The ability to sit, stand, and navigate environments that were once inaccessible, is now possible, safe, and available… Tek RMD is a patented, CE Marked, and FDA 510(k) cleared technology independently and safely. The Tek RMD’s small footprint allows users to go places and reach items otherwise unavailable in a standard wheelchair…”
In addition to mobility that the TEK RMD provides, standing improves circulation, bone density, bowel and bladder function, alleviates pressure points, decreases spasticity and more. Standing also improves self-esteem, as well as reducing mortality.
Donations to Help Hope Live will help ease the financial burden I am facing to afford this life changing TEK RMD. The cost for this device is not yet reimbursed by insurance.
Thank you.
