Marcus Pinson’s life was turned upside down on January 9th, 2022, when a person one floor below him accidentally fired a bullet through the ceiling, striking him in the back as he lay in bed upstairs. The resulting injury has left him with a complete T11-T12 spinal cord injury and paraplegia (paralysis from the waist down).
For years, Marcus worked as a personal protective services asset, providing armed protection for people from all walks of life in the Charlotte area – from employees in high risk areas, to battered women needing protection in transition. After years of service and a few close calls, he chose to make a career change and began teaching blacksmithing for a local nonprofit, Makerspace Charlotte. Marcus thought he left the risks of firearm injury behind, only to face this horrible situation in his own bed at home.
Marcus is approaching his recovery with steely determination, but he needs help. The road to recovery is long and his financial resources are extremely limited.
That’s where you come in— donations through Help Hope Live will cover expenses like outpatient rehabilitation, an accessible vehicle and in-home adaptations to give him as much independence as possible, as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your support!
Marcus just finished his first round of Stem Cell Treatment!!!! He is so excited to see the hopeful improvement in function but knows he will need another treatment prior to the end of 2022 for maximum effectiveness. He still needs you help!!
Just to give everyone an update, Marcus did NOT get into an intensive rehab facility and, yes, we are incredibly disappointed, as it's crucial for recovery and gain of maximum function. We are currently trying to temporarily modify his 2 story unit until he has SSI, which will enable him to prove income to apply for a one-story home. Let's just say, it's been a really rough week and if it weren't for the generous support from all of you, I really don't know what we would do. Literally, you've kept a roof over his head during this transition. You guys are AMAZING and we cannot thank you enough!!!!! #STANDWITHMARCUS #2sexy4mychair #paralife #paranormal
It has been less than a month since Marcus's life was changed forever. We're so incredibly proud of how hard he's pushing himself in recovery, even at such an early stage!
We still have a long road ahead, but your support is directly helping us give him what he needs to continue to fight! So THANK YOU for having our back in Marcus's time of need!
During PT today, I asked Marcus what he was most thankful for right that second. He said: "these machines and the people helping me use them." As challenging as Rehab is, he is grateful to be here.
We cannot thank you all enough for helping us lift him up! The comments, donations and prayers are deeply felt.
WE HIT $10K!! And Marcus is progressing in leaps and bounds! He's learning how to use more assistive tools like a grabber to help him take off shoes on his own!
Marcus has been deeply moved by the incredible support of all of you, and knowing that we have so many incredible people behind him is giving both Marcus and our family so much confidence for the days ahead.
WE'VE GOT THIS!
We're over HALFWAY to our goal! Thank you to everyone who has already donated! Let's keep sharing his story!!
Marcus made MAJOR progress in physical therapy today! THANK YOU to everyone for your support and encouragement. He feels it!!
Today was the first time he has been able to use assistive technology to "stand up" since the accident. He was also able to transfer himself to and from his wheelchair without assistance THREE times!

I pray first for Marcus and then that there will be sufficient love and generosity to meet his needs. Surely, if we were in his situation that our prayer would be that others would come to our aid... Please be an "answer to this prayer".
