Hi,
It’s me Sam. I am 21 years old and I was born with a congenital heart condition called Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome.
Basically, I was born with half a heart. The right side of my heart is essentially missing…and over the years I have had multiple open-heart surgeries and heart catheterizations. Frankly, I am bionic because they put double stints in my heart, which is mostly unheard of.
I love going to concerts and festivals, live music, my friends, my awesome family, traveling, working out, and cooking. I aspire to be a chef one day and travel the world to see different music festivals. I am looking forward to the day I get my transplant and get back to doing all those things I love.
The result of having half a heart has led to other complications, such as pressure issues that lead to internal bleeding, protein loss enteropathy (the body doesn’t absorb protein) and that leads to a boatload more complications. Recently I have been in and out of the hospital due to my liver leaking, and they have had to drain the fluid that builds up as a result of the leaking.
I have had really great doctors all across the country, keeping my organs in my body for the last 21 years. But it’s time for a couple of them to come out and get replaced with new ones! The complications have gotten severe enough that it’s time for me to get put on the heart and liver transplant list. In the next couple of weeks, I will be going to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to have a procedure to slow down the leaking. After that, I will have to move to Philadelphia to get put on the waiting list for a heart/liver transplant. The expenses for all the treatments, travel and the transplant itself are really overwhelming.
I am starting this campaign page with Help Hope Live to share my journey, and hope that those that love me, know how hard this is, or just want to help a fellow human will support my fundraising efforts or just pray for my healing!
I would love to hear from you! I am so grateful to everyone that has been there for me during this journey, and looking to meeting and making new friends as I embark on a new chapter!
Thank you for your support and prayers!

Please take a moment to read this story about our family’s fight to persevere through life’s bittersweet struggle with health.Maurice and Michelle had beautiful twin daughters on October 22, 2000. One of their girls, Samantha, was born missing her right ventricle and valve. Since birth, she has undergone more than 29 procedures to keep her alive. In April of 2022, she underwent a lymphatic procedure at the Children’s Hospital in Pennsylvania. On November 2, 2022, Samantha was given the gift of life by receiving a heart and liver transplant. She was under anesthesia for 12.5 hours. Most other procedures kept her under anesthesia for an average of 5-7 hours. Her body has not rejected the organs, but other complications soon set in, and the doctors have yet to find a way to heal her. For a short while, Sammy was able to live a somewhat “normal” life, but now she is again in dire need of medical care. Through it all, Sammy has shown us that she is a resilient, vibrant, strong, happy, and beautiful soul. She has advocated for others in need and participated in events with groups such as the Children’s Heart Association. As a parent, one can only imagine the pain Sammy’s parents have had to endure. For the past 24 years, their lives have revolved around bringing her to countless children’s hospitals throughout the country. All the while, they had to maintain balance for their two other children. Sammy also has an older brother. Maurizio’s job is ending, and he will be in a position to have to find a job that will allow him the time needed to travel with Sammy. This will be nearly impossible. Medical and travel expenses have exhausted their savings. In the last three years alone, it has cost more than $260,000.00, leaving them financially destitute. We are asking for your help in donating what you can so Sammy’s parents can have the ability to focus on their daughter’s health without the horrendous burden of losing the roof over their heads. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your love, prayers, and support. Together we can help them during this very difficult time. Any help you can provide is truly appreciated! Sharing this with others will mean the world to us.With deepest gratitude,The Mazza, Poganik, Magri, Gazza, Frasson, Auletta, and Domini families
May 26, 2025It is with heavy heart that I write that Sammy’s lymphoma is more aggressive than originally diagnosed. She has been intubated and is being kept comfortable. Please pray for her and her family. May they stay hopeful and endure strength and courage.
May 17, 2025Sammy had a PET scan and was told she has PTLD lymphoma. This occurs in about 10 % of organ transplant patients. They are working on the best course of treatment for her. Words on her status from her dad: “She has fluid in her lungs but getting better the biopsy is scheduled for Monday morning she still has fevers 100.5/101 her thyroid is over reacting so she is very tired she finally ate a little bit last night two small bites of ham and provolone (she needs the salt) and a slice of bread with honey. She had about 14+ doctors come in yesterday afternoon and Sam got a bit annoyed lol the teams here at CHOP are working closely with the Stanford's teams so she is getting the best care possible it may slow it down a bit but we are very confident that she will get the best that's available ” . Please continue to pray for Sammy and her family. Thank you again for such support.
May 14th, 2025Samantha is in surgery today to clear a blood clot that developed. She underwent a successful procedure, just two days ago to insert a stent, but complications developed. The surgeons are doing everything they can to prevent internal bleeding. Please pray for Samantha and her family. May her resilience continue and see her through this procedure.
On April 29, Sammy had a lymphatic procedure which involved poking her with long needles and then sticking her again to place glue to plug the leaks. All the while she was strapped inside a box to prevent her from moving. The procedure lasted approximately 7 hours. She is currently in a lot of pain and it will take about a week before she can expect to feel normal. Today she had a bit to eat and was even able to take a few steps. We pray for early signs that the leaking will stop. Thank you for your generosity and please continue to pray for Sammy’s recovery.
