When Cynthia was born she appeared to be perfectly normal, but around 3 to 4 months she didn’t have the same movements that other children at that age generally have. Then the doctor told us that with a little physical therapy, Cynthia could be helped, but it wasn’t like that.
On the contrary, she began to gradually lose more and more of her strength. At 7 months she also began having respiratory infections and was in and out of the hospital almost every month.
After having genetic testing done, it revealed that she had a severe form of muscular atrophy and wouldn’t live for more than 2 years. Our entire family was very discouraged after hearing this, however with instruction from the doctors and God’s help, we learned how to care for her and meet her needs.
Thanks be to God, Cynthia is now 11 years old! She currently uses a Bipap
machine to help her breathe at night and when she has respiratory infections, and last March she had surgery to help correct her scoliosis which went very well. She is in the 5th grade now and enjoys her classes at Saluda Elementary School. She likes to swim in the summer with assistance, and enjoys sitting outside in her wheelchair to watch the butterflies, flowers, and birds. She likes watching the TV show “Stranger Things,” and her favorite pastime is playing with her dogs, 2 cats, and 4 kittens!
As she continues to grow, she currently needs a van with a lift that can safely transport her in her wheelchair. We are extremely grateful for any contribution that you would like to make to help us get a van for Cynthia!

A medida
