My name is Martin Braided Hair Sr, I am a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, I live in Lame Deer, MT. I am 56 years old, a father of seven and four grandchildren. In addition to all my challenges I became a single father about three years ago and have been raising the four younger boys on my own. Most challenging was the loss of my eldest daughter last summer, very trying times, the support of my immediate family and siblings is even more appreciated, with their help the three grandsons are safely back home.
I have been on dialysis over four years due to kidney failure, failure was likely due to a combination of factors, them being a vehicle accident in my youth and long-term cumulative damage as an operator of Heavy Equipment. I’ve diligently worked to attain the level of health required to become a candidate for a kidney transplant. Maintaining the status of my health both mentally and physically allows me to remain eligible while ensuring the likelihood of enduring a transplant procedure. My immediate family and I have been preparing and making plans as much as we possibly can. I have the support of my siblings, who plan to care for my children during the transplant procedure and recovery. My transplant hospital is in Denver, CO, nearly 500 miles from Lame Deer, MT which is approximately an eight-hour drive.
I am currently on a fixed income, two years ago I was laid-off due to the Pandemic but recently obtained a part-time job at our local college teaching drumming and singing class. In the past, I worked as a Sawyer and mostly in construction and maintenance jobs. You can say that I’ve dedicated most of my life to Blue Collar work because of my deep connection to the outdoors.
When I am able, my plan is to return to work, provide for my children and get back to enjoying life. My greatest joy is being outdoors with my family, observing and participating in the various social activities of our community. I sincerely hope to return to a better quality of life that will allow me to actively participate in the lives of my children, family, friends and community.
I graciously request for your support with a donation to help defray living and travel costs that will be incurred traveling and staying to Denver, CO during the transplant procedure, the recovery time and for the trip home. I would especially appreciate your prayers for a healthy and successful outcome.
“Blessing to you and your loved ones”.
Thank you,
Nea’ese,
Martin Braided Hair, Sr.,
