On October 7th of 2020, Phil English, a Husband, Father & Grandfather to three little girls went into Kidney failure due to FSGS, a rare disease in which scar tissue develops on the glomeruli, the small parts of the kidneys that filters waste from the blood. He has been on life-changing dialysis ever since.
After countless tests, hours of bloodwork, board approvals, weight loss, and even a knee replacement, Phil is on the National Kidney Transplant list.
There are an estimated 100,000 people waiting for a kidney from a deceased donor, the average wait is over 5 years. With that said, about 40% of transplants last year were from living donors. The benefits of a living donor include shorter wait times, better transplant outcomes and longevity of the kidney.
You may know Phil from all walks of life. Young days at the Pointview, his stint at SRU, maybe he’s your fraternity brother, maybe he coached you or your children’s football or baseball in Brentwood, maybe he’s your colleague, or your camping buddy….I’m now calling upon YOU to help him. Even if it’s just creating awareness, becoming an advocate, providing him with emotional support, helping us fundraise to prepare for the slew of medical bills, and lastly, the ultimate, seeing if you’re a compatible living donor.
Living donors
-contrary to popular belief do NOT need to be a specific blood type, just compatible.
