Ya Gotta Believe………….

Easton is a two year old boy from Holbrook, New York who sustained a severe spinal cord injury in March 2021 at the age of one. At the time of injury, Easton was paralyzed from the shoulders down, underwent tracheotomy and g-tube surgeries and was vent dependent. In the last year, Easton’s recovery has been nothing short of a miracle coupled with a lot of hard work and dedication. During his two month inpatient stay at Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, he started to regain movement in his arms and hands. Easton was weened off the ventilator and eating independently by mouth as well by the time he was discharged from Shriners. He was decannulated and had his g-tube removed a few months later. Easton returned home and was immediately enrolled in locomotor training therapy five days a week at St. Mary’s Kids in Bayside, NY. This activity based therapy consists of 60 minutes on the treadmill in a body weight support harness followed by 30 minutes over ground work. In less than one year, this therapy has helped improve Easton’s trunk control and standing ability significantly. It has also helped make neurological pathway connections that have enabled Easton to take a step when he is cued or sometimes even on his own. He continues to progress and this therapy plays a very big, important roll in his recovery.
