On January 28, 2022, Michael was admitted for Frederick Memorial Hospital, with a stomach infection. By Tuesday the infection had spread to his pancreas and liver. On February 1, Michael was Medvac to Medstar Georgetown University Hospital. Michael spent the whole month of February in and out of Georgetown with many complications. On February 21, Michael was diagnosed with liver failure. As his health continued to decline Michael was approved for a liver transplant on March 4, was put on the list. By the grace of God, Michael received a new liver on March 6. During this time, Michael’s kidneys also suffered damage.
While Michael has health insurance, many transplant expenses are surprisingly not covered, such as the monthly anti-rejection medication he needs to take for the life of his new liver, long term dialysis on his kidneys, and two months of intensive physical therapy at the Washington Rehabilitation Center.
Donations to Help Hope Live can help ease the financial burden of the transplant an allow Michael to focus on a health recovery and a long life ahead of him.
Family and friends of Michael Maher are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Michael has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.
