Reason for campaign: On January 1, 2022, Carl was in a motor vehicle accident. He suffered an incomplete spinal cord injury that has resulted in quadriplegia.
What makes Carl special:
Carl has led an extraordinary life as a lifelong Philadelphia resident. He is an Army Reserves Veteran and a retired City employee. His contributions to the Philadelphia community unfolded over decades as he oversaw recreational programs for the city’s youth at the city’s playgrounds. For 44 years he oversaw countless successful seasons of sports teams and leagues, summer swimming programs, day care programs, arts and crafts programs, seniors’ programs, and summer camps for youth, adults, and folks with disabilities at recreational facilities throughout Philadelphia. His humorous and playful outlook on life endear him to all, regardless of age. His generosity is unmatched. He is loved deeply by his grandchildren, his children, his children-in-law and his friends.
This is not the first time Carl has faced a devastating injury or prolonged hospitalization. In 2019, he fell down a flight of stairs; he sustained multiple fractures and was in a medically induced coma with respiratory failure for over a month. Amazingly, and with steadfast determination, he made a complete recovery from that accident. One year after his fall, he was completely independent in all of his activities.
Carl’s breathtaking will to regain his independence, strength, and mobility is an inspiration for everyone close to him. He has defied medical odds again and again. Through all of the challenges he has faced, he has continually centered his love for, and commitment to regaining his ability to spend time with, his family. We would be so incredibly grateful for any support you can offer Carl as he takes on his greatest challenge yet.
What are Carl’s needs:
Medical expenses, especially for long term care. Specialty mobility equipment and adaptive technology. 24/7 around the clock nursing.
***Family and friends of Carl Holod are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with Catastrophic Injury.
