Although you would never know it by the positive attitude she keeps, the last few years have been very trying for Andie. Many complications from diabetes are attacking her body. She suffers from diabetic neuropathy and retinopathy that attacks the nerve endings in the body tissue. She also has a stomach disorder that interferes with her eating and digestion, often causing nausea and vomiting landing Andie in the hospital quite often for weeks at a time. Although often she is fatigued, she still has many sleepless nights. After undergoing a comprehensive medical evaluation, Andie has been placed on the kidney/pancreas transplant list at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, WA.
Through it all, Andie’s spirit has never faltered. She continues to inspire everyone she meets with her cheery presence and sense of humor. Andie is an inspiration to all those she comes in contact with, and even more inspiring she maintains a positive, can do attitude that is never shook by her struggles.
At times like these, the support of family, friends, and the community is crucial to help ensure a successful outcome. Even with private health insurance, Andie now faces significant transplant-related expenses. Her out-of-pocket expenses include co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel and relocation at the time of transplant, and the costly immunosuppressant medications (around $800/mo) she will have to take for the rest of her life.
To assist with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Andie’s honor has been established HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northwest Kidney/Pancreas Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. To make a contribution to Andrea:For more information, please contact HelpHOPELive at 800.642.8399.
Thanks for your support!
Hello everyone! By now most of you know that I received my kidney/pancreas transplant 2/10/2016!! The surgery went awesome and I am recovering nicely :-) I have to stay in Seattle for about a month so I can be close to the hospital.
I am already feeling better than I was prior to the transplant -- no more insulin or dialysis. It is a true miracle! Please continue to pray for me and that my new organs are happy in their new home and my body accepts them as if they belong to me! Please also keep the family of my donor in your thoughts and prayers, I am so grateful for this gift of life. I hope to meet the donors family someday to express my gratitude.
This has most definitely changed my life and I feel so blessed. Hopefully in the next few weeks I will be able to stop taking a couple of the meds I am on. I currently take 32 pills in the morning and 15 at night. Hopefully we can get the morning down to 28 pills and evening to 12. Anyway, I just wanted to share my update with you all :-) while you are on my page, please sign my guest book!
Just wanted to post a little update on my health status as I am patiently waiting for transplant....well maybe not so patient, but waiting anyway! my health has been stable and I have been feeling great :-) I love life and know that no matter what a better, healthier life is within reach! I know it is coming soon and I CAN'T WAIT to share that wonderful new life with all of you that I love!! keep the prayers coming, I appreciate EVERY SINGLE ONE!
love you all to the moon...
oh yeah, and sign my guestbook! I love seeing who stops by :-)

I can't thank those who have donated enough for their generosity. The love and support I have felt from our community and my friends and family is overwhelming. Words do not even begin to touch on the gratitude I feel. I love you all!
If anyone wants to help with having a fund raiser or charity event just let me or my mama know. I have been so busy with dr appts for dialysis and my shoulder surgery that I haven't been able to plan anything lately! it's weird, the drs don't seem to care though, the bills keep rolling in!!LOL!
what a great way to start the year, thank you Seattle Seahawks for a first ever National Championship!! I have faith this will be the best year of my life.... I am standing by for that phone call! thanks again to all my family and friends for all the continued love and prayers. no words can describe my gratitude for your support. I couldn't do this battle without you!
Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday with hopes the new year brings joy and happiness to each and every one of you! if you have any new years resolutions or new ways to live your life in 2014 - let it be to laugh more, live stronger and love harder. its something we can all do! Thank you again to all of you for the ongoing support. I could never do this battle without you. I thank god everyday for blessing my life with such great people to get me through. I love you all more than words can say Xoxo
As the day of thanks approaches it's end I hope my loved ones will join me in continuing thankfulness throughout the year and holiday season for all the great things we have in our lives this day and every day. I am thankful for a roof over my head, a food on the table, shooting stars, a great family who is always there for me, and all of YOU who are reading this right now. every post, every like, every prayer and every single comment are what I am thankful for every day of my wonderful life. we all have a lot of things we could be down about, but I have much much more to smile about about :-) xoxo
i hope all my friends and family are finding ways to stay warm as we are getting back to the weather we all feel so familiar with.
There are not even.close to enough words in the dictionary to describe the amount of gratitude I feel toward my wonderful friends and family for all your generous donations, kind words and non stop support. you are all truly heroes!
I might have some health issues, but you all make me the happiest, luckiest girl on the planet.it is because of your support and love that I wouldn't trade my life for the world. A very special friend assured me that, "every little thing is going to be alright" :-) love you all

I hope that you are doing well. I just wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. You are truly one of the most amazing people I have ever met. You have always been such a positive and kind person. You make friends with everyone you meet. We met at a basketball game in junior high (I remember you liked one of the boys at Naselle, I wonder if you remember this ;) ) and we've been friends ever since. Good times. Speaking of good times the timeshare people called again the other night. This always makes me think of you. Lol! Stay positive. Miss you.

Wow Andrea, you are one incredable human being. Your circumstances, and what you've gone through really struck my heart. I had actually let the donar on my driver's license lap, and when I recently got a new Dr., I marked the NO box on the donar sheet. I forgot the reason I have always wanted to be a donar, for what ever some one like you could benifit from. I am amazed at myself, and am so glad to have you cross my life path. Thank you for the enlightenment. I pray you will receive what ever you desire for the highest well being of your mind, body, spirit, and emotions. God bless you. Much love to you, Louise.

Best wishes to you Andie. My husband underwent a K-P transplant at the UW 14 years ago. After living with Type 1 diabetes and the ravaging complications for 36 years, the surgery miraculously changed his life, my life and the lives of our three children. The staff at the UW were (and still are) incredibly supportive. I hope all goes well for you- waiting for those calls can be very stressful - it will be worth it:)
Shawn Dickson, Aberdeen, Washington
Andrea, I think of you often and have sent a lot of prayers your way. I know in my heart this transplant will take place to give such a vivacious young woman much better health. Don't give up - it will happen

Dearest Andrea, you are such a wonderful, smart, caring gal and I'm so happy that through all these years we are still in each others lives. When I complain about my leg, bills or pain I feel like such a sissy compaired to what you have been ensuring for years. The majority of the time you are in the hospital you never tell the world, it's just something you endure quietly unlike this baby. I hope to god you get your transplant and can work towards living a longer, hopefully easier life after. I will pray everything works out. Like the Golden Girls theme song, "Thank you for being a friend. Traveled down the road and back again..." Love you huge!!!
Beth M.-Olympia, WA

I had no idea of the struggles you have had to deal with. Though iv only seen you a couple of times since school, you where always someone who had a spirit about you that touched people in a very positive way. We where not close and not even considered friends, but I got the feeling from you that if I wasn't socially awkward and approached you, you would have been there with a sympathetic ear and a kind word. I guess I just want you to know no matter how minute your attachment to people, that you have had impact, and have shared your rare essence with the world around you in affect making it a better place if not for you. Karma is with you as well are my thoughts.
Andrew Erwin Chehalis, Wa.
