Many of you know my loving wife, Karen Kimmel. She is the loving mother to Michael, Tim, Rex and Jeff, stepmother to my four children and sister of Pam Durham. We are members of the Shelton Elks club where she is currently an officer. We live the motto of the Elks which is Elks Share Elks Care. Karen enjoys going to the beach and spending her time with family and friends. In addition, she ran her own business, Kimmel Escrow for many years until she was forced to close it due to poor health.
Karen has been suffering from diabetes for many years. Due to her illness she has endured several surgeries and has had both legs amputated. Karen has been diagnosed with end stage renal failure and her doctors at Virginia Mason Medical Center have told us that her only option now is a life saving kidney transplant.
Not only is a transplant major surgery it is also very expensive. Even with insurance, there are many expenses associated with a transplant that must be paid for out of pocket. Some of these expenses are insurance co-pays, deductibles and doctor visits. In addition, Karen will be on a lifetime of anti-rejection medications. This is where your help is desperately needed.
To help with this financial burden a fundraising campaign has been established in Karen’s honor with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF). HelpHOPELive is a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization that has been providing assistance to the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All contributions are administered by HelpHOPELive exclusively for uninsured transplant related expenses. Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
