Brother Kinney had been battling end-stage renal disease since 2002. His health was rapidly declining, and as a result he was no longer his vibrant self. Brother Kinney desperately needed a lifesaving kidney transplant and so his doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital placed him on the kidney transplant list. On December 24, 2014 Brother Kinney was blessed with the gift of life- a new kidney! He is doing well and this transplant will save his life, however, the uninsured costs are more than he can handle alone. He needs your help.
Brother Kinney has always been a “mover and a shaker”. He is well known in his community as the former Director of F.I.R.S.T. (For Individuals Recovering Sound Thinking). He spent his life dedicated to his work, and lecturing on the importance of activism, inspiring politicians and elected officials throughout his community. His need for a kidney transplant had reduced his physical movement, but not his mind or his message, “If everybody does a little bit, no one has to do a lot.”
Brother Kinney is hoping his message will in turn help him during this time of need. Even with health insurance, he faces financial obstacles paying for post-transplant-related care and expenses. Some of these costs include relocation rental fees, home health care, insurance premiums, and post-transplant medications he will need to take for the rest of his life. These are some examples of items he needs to pay for that exceeds his monthly income. The financial coordinator at Massachusetts General Hospital has estimated he will need upwards of $30,000 to pay for these post-transplant-related expenses for approximately six month.
To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Robert’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northeast Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
