Freedom is a 40 year old mother of 4 who was diagnosed with an autoimmune liver disease (PBC) Primary Billiary Cholangitis in 2006. Which means, even though she has Never been a drinker, she NEEDS a liver transplant. On May 10th she was diagnosed with end stage liver failure and evaluated for a liver transplant. It was determined that she is a candidate and without the transplant, best case scenario, she would have 12-24 months to live. Freedom has a 12 year old child at home who still needs his Momma!
Since being placed on the transplant list in July, Freedom has already had 4 calls with a donor liver offer which so far have all fallen through for one reason or another. One fell through just 30 min before she was supposed to be in the Operating Room receiving her life saving transplant.
Even through this emotional and physical roller coaster of a ride, Freedom and family remain steadfast in their Faith that she will receive her transplant in HIS timing.
As she lives nearly 5 hours from the hospital, once Freedom receives her transplant, she will have to temporarily relocate within an hour of the hospital for several months to follow up and watch for rejection.
The money raised through this non profit organization will go to the cost of travel, housing, anti-rejection meds and apts, etc. Freedom will have to be back and forth to the doctors and on anti rejection meds for the rest of her life. She does have a possible living donor option who is going through the screening process. If she finds a compatible living donor, this will also go to cover their lodging, travel and caregiver needs.
If you are not able to donate, please like and share to spread her story. Thank You for your time.
Family and friends of Freedom Vandersypen are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
