My name is Eric Murray. I was born in Nashville and Nashville is my home! I am married and the father of two beautiful daughters.
Our lives changed forever on December 23, 2012 with a catastrophic car accident that left me paralyzed from the waist down. I vividly remember laying in the hospital bed and hearing the Dr’s give us the news. We knew then, the changes that our young family would face. With the support of family, friends and community – we remained grateful and hopeful for our future.
Over the next seven years, we remained full of faith, positive and adjusted. I always believed I would walk again. In 2019, I traveled to Atlanta to try the ReWalk exoskeleton. There are no words to describe the feeling of standing and walking again. I forgot how tall I was!
Believing turned into dreaming and from that day forward, I worked out and got into shape. I have dedicated 365 days for the last 3 years towards this dream. With 2 goals in mind; keep in shape to be prepared for my new legs and to fight for insurance leg coverage. Upon receiving the insurance coverage denial, I started taking walking into my own hands and started fundraising with the sale of t-shirts #EricStrong #Ihaveadreamtowalkagain
In 2021, I traveled back to Atlanta to trial again so I could gather current documentation to give the insurance coverage another try. Denied again! It turns out, I am one of many that insurance companies deem the right to walk is not necessary for the spinal cord injured. I am determined not to delay and take back control by finishing my fundraising efforts.
I need to own my own ReWalk to do this. It would change the quality of my life and my family’s. Besides all the health benefits now and in the future – there is another amazing opportunity here. I daydream of walking with my daughters, sharing some vertical hugs and a vertical kiss with my wife.
My marathon continues and will never stop.
I plan on helping to make this technology accessible to the SCI Nashville community.
My vision and dream to walk again can be a reality. ….. With your help. Please accept my gratitude of thanks.
